Your Complete Guide to Botox For Men
May 1, 2023
Are you a guy who’s afraid to get Botox?
Do you worry about what your friends would think?
Guess what: You’re not alone. 15% of Botox procedures are done on men and that number is forecast to grow rapidly year over year. So you are not the only guy thinking about getting Botox done–far from it, in fact!
It’s really silly to us that in 2023, self-care and skincare treatments remain taboo for men. After all, men get wrinkles too! Plus, many of the non-aesthetic benefits of Botox are just as useful for men as they are for women. If you’re a man who suffers from migraines, Botox can help you. Same thing if you have TMJ or grind your teeth at night. Botox can effectively treat both issues, and why should men miss out on pain management just because society stigmatizes men getting these treatments??
At Upkeep we’re on a mission to de-stigmatize MedSpa treatments for everyone and provide the information you need to make your own decisions about what treatments are best for you. So here’s everything you need to know about botox for men, or as we call it, bro-tox.
How does Botox for men work?
Botox is the brand name for botulism toxin. When injected to a muscle, it temporarily paralyzes the muscle. There’s long been a perception in the culture that Botox is somehow unsafe, but it’s been the subject of thousands of studies, and is widely regarded in medicine as one of the safest aesthetic treatments out there. Botox is safe because it stays where you inject it; it doesn’t disperse across your body, but instead stays in the localized injection area.
What issues does Botox for men treat?
Botox is an incredibly versatile substance because it treats a range of aesthetic and non-aesthetic concerns. Botox works great for:
- Forehead wrinkles
- Crows feet
- Gummy smile
- TMJ
- Migraines
- Excessive sweating in armpits and palms
How long does Botox last for men?
Botox lasts about 3-4 months on average, so you’ll need to do it three or four times a year per treatment area.
How many units of Botox do men need?
Men need more units of Botox on average than women do. This is because men have stronger muscles, including in their faces! The amount of units you’ll need depends on the specific treatment area and your unique anatomy. In general, men need roughly two times as much Botox as women do to treat the same areas of the face. For example, a woman typically needs 25-30 units of Botox to treat forehead lines, while men may need up to 60.
Will Botox look obvious on me because I’m a man?
In general, no. The key with Botox is to go to a qualified professional–like a dermatologist, nurse injector, or medical assistant (both of whom inject with a doctor’s supervision). Aesthetic injectors are both medical professionals and artists; their goal is to make you look like a more well-rested, smoother version of yourself–not like a totally new person. Botox also takes time to show up on your face–you’ll notice your muscles gradually getting weaker over the course of several days. So no one will be able to tell you’ve had it done, unless you decide to spill the beans.
How do I find Botox for men near me?
While you might expect most MedSpas to be very “girly” and that you might stand out, this isn’t always the case. Most MedSpas feel a lot more like spas than girly beauty salons. Plus, there are probably more men in your area getting Botox than you think (especially if you’re in a big city like New York or LA).
Still, we know it can be embarrassing to call around looking for available appointments. That’s why we created an app that makes it easy to find, book, and pay for MedSpa treatments–all in the app! The Upkeep app is easy to use. Once you download it, select Botox in the treatment menu and you can browse through a list of available appointments at the best local MedSpas near you. You then book and pay for your appointment in-app, so there’s totally transparent pricing and no surprises once you get to the MedSpa.
