Which Sunscreens Won't Leave a Whitecast?

If there’s one thing you’ll hear us say over and over again at Upkeep Beauty, it’s “wear your SPF” (followed closely by “life is short, get the Botox!”) Why do we say this again and again? Because we’re passionate about beauty and self care. SPF is  the easiest and most effective way to protect yourself from sun damage, skin cancer, and premature aging. But if you have a darker skin tone, it can be really challenging to find an SPF that doesn’t give you the dreaded ashy white cast. It might put you off wearing SPF altogether, because after all, you don’t get sunburned!

And it’s clear and transparent, good for any skin tone. You can get it fragrance-free, or with a guava mango scent (which is kind of addictive tbh).  

Elta MD UV Clear Facial Sunscreen SPF 46

This SPF is lightweight and oil free, designed for sensitive skin. It is a physical sunscreen, meaning it has titanium dioxide in it, but it does not leave a white cast, according to the glowing reviews on sites like Dermstore. It also has niacinamide in it, which is great for those with acne.

Laneige Hydro UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 50

If your skin is dry, this is the SPF for you. With glycerin and lavender flower water, it’s a moisturizing sunscreen lotion that won’t leave a whitecast. If your skin is oily, you might want to skip this one, but if you’re dry, you’ll love the radiant finish!

An SPF that smells like watermelon? Count us in. It also has niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and aloe for a hydrating, quenching feel. Which is so nice in the summer when your skin can easily get dehydrated. It combines mineral and chemical SPF for a formula that goes on sheer. 

Fenty Skin Hydra Vizor SPF 30

This product from Rihanna’s beauty brand combines the benefits of a moisturizer and SPF in one. Fenty Beauty has always prioritized catering to all skin tones, and this product is no exception. It is also vegan, FYI.
