What’s Morpheus8, the body sculpting treatment Kim Kardashian loves?

She posted to her Instagram stories to tell her fans about getting it done on her abdomen, calling it her “fave laser” and “painful lol but worth it.” All useful info…but what does it do? We’re here to answer all your questions about the skin-tightening, body-sculpting treatment Kim swears by.

What is Morpheus8 and how does it work?

Morpheus8 is a treatment that can do all of the following: 

• Make your skin tighter and firmer, resulting in a “lifted” appearance
• Treat active acne, acne scarring and pitted scars
• Sculpt subdermal fat for improved facial contours
• Tighten skin that has become loose as the result of childbirth, aging, or weight loss
• Treat cellulite and stretch marks 

In her Insta story, our girl Kim K was using Morpheus8 to tighten the skin on her abdomen. But we would not be shocked if she’s used it for one of these other purposes too–after all, she did call it her favorite laser!

Morpheus8 combines two technologies in the same treatment: microneedling and radiofrequency heat. It works by triggering your body’s natural healing process, and there are different microneedling depth settings and heat settings for each type of treatment goal. Here they are in order from least to most invasive:

For re-surfacing and treating scars and acne: epidermis level (outer surface of skin)

For tightening: dermis (beneath the epidermis)

For contouring: subdermal (deepest skin layer)

Is Morpheus8 painful? 

Like Kim said, this treatment is uncomfortable–but don’t let that scare you away! The important thing to know is that the deeper the needle setting, the more painful the treatment is. Your treatment provider will also take every step to minimize discomfort. Topical numbing cream is applied for the face and neck and for the body, there may even be local anesthetic. The results make it worth it, and sessions are usually fairly brief, about 15-60 minutes depending on the treatment area.

What happens after the treatment? Is there downtime?

The treatment area will feel tight afterwards and you may experience redness. For the first 24 hours afterwards you can cleanse the area only with water. Follow all of your provider’s aftercare instructions, and stay out of the sun while your skin is healing. Morpheus8 poses very little risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. But it’s still important to avoid sun exposure for as long as your treatment provider tells you.

How long do results last? 

After the full course of treatment is done (usually about three to six treatment sessions), results from Morpheus8 last for about one to three years on average before a repeat treatment is necessary. It’s likely that Kim Kardashian will go back for additional Morpheus8 treatment in a year or two. With a busy schedule like hers, it’s helpful that this treatment requires very little time to see results.
