What It’s Really Like to Get Evolve Bodysculpting
April 17, 2023
While we love non-surgical bodysculpting treatments here at Upkeep, we know the idea of these treatments can seem intimidating. If you’re thinking about getting a treatment that uses radiofrequency, electromagnetic pulses, or extreme cold to reduce unwanted fat and/or tone muscles, it can be useful to hear how it was for a real person! One of our content creators Tessa recently got a course of Evolve bodysculpting treatments. Here’s what she had to say about the experience, her results, and whether or not she’d recommend it.
Why did you choose Evolve over other body sculpting treatments?
Tessa: Evolve is a little bit of a mix between things like CryoSlim and Emsculpt, because it does the muscular pulses that gives you the actual abs that you’re looking for while also burning fat, so it does a little bit of both. I also learned that if you have any metal in your body, like an IUD, you can’t get Emsculpt. So Evolve was the best of both worlds, and I wanted to make sure I was getting both muscle toning and fat burning at the same time.
What was the treatment like? Did it hurt?
Tessa: It’s about an hour long process. During the first thirty minutes it does the muscle contractions along with the heating, and then the last thirty minutes is only the heat. The doctor who did the treatment did explain that it was doing skin tightening, fat burning, and muscle toning all at once. I had one treatment applicator just above my ribs, two on my lower belly, and two on my sides by my hips.
At first, it’s definitely a little startling and maybe a little uncomfortable, but you get used to it. And the warmer it gets, the better it gets. They start heating you up when they start the electrical pulses, and the best way to describe it is…it tingles your nerves? It feels like your abs are trying to get you to sit up from lying down. It’s that feeling of contracting your abs to sit up combined with a tingle, too. It feels like you’re clenching and un-clenching your abs. Occasionally my leg would twitch too, depending on where the paddles would be. As it gets warmer, I was able to gradually add more intensity to the pulses, and I just got more used to the sensation. After that it’s pretty comfortable! I was laying there on my phone just hanging out, so it doesn’t hurt, it’s just a weird sensation.
How many treatment sessions did you need?
Tessa: I needed six sessions. Sometimes people need eight, but my provider said that normally six is the baseline. When we took before and after pictures, the actual spa took them at the first session and then at the fourth session because that’s when you start to see the results–when you’re halfway through. And then they take another picture at the sixth. I took all six sessions for me to see full results, but even after that first session you can start to see that your muscles look tightened.
How far apart were the treatment sessions?
Tessa: My treatments were scheduled once a week. After the first treatment I had some residual redness, but that taught me that I need to ask for more of the ultrasound gel they use, if it gets too hot. So I waited an extra week after the first session, but the rest of the sessions were weekly. They recommend not doing that, you should be consistent, but you can space out a session if you have to and still get results.
Did you have any other side effects?
Tessa: No, there was literally nothing! After the first session when I had that redness, we decreased the heat setting from 43 degrees Celsius to 41, and added more gel because my skin is sensitive. So we just adjusted based on that first time. All the redness went away. By the time I got home from my second session, the redness had already faded. I really just started to get abs and lose inches on my waist.
What were your results?
Tessa: I didn’t measure my waist before–I meant to do it but I didn’t. But my literal favorite pair of jeans that I thrifted, that were my holy grail–now they’re big on me! They used to be the jeans that fit my waist so well, perfectly hugged my butt, and they still fit, but they’re a lot more of a looser, baggier fit, whereas before they were pretty fitted.
I think I lost weight in general with the whole process because of the effect that the muscle-building had on my metabolism. My pants all fit differently now, but not just on the waist where I did my treatments. I fit into my ‘skinny shorts’ again which is insane!

How has Evolve impacted your confidence? How has it changed your life?
Tessa: I would say that as I started to see results it made me feel really good because I was in a place before where I definitely had stubborn tummy fat, and I wasn’t being regimented enough in the gym to get rid of that. So as I started to see the results it was really nice to see that it was worth my time. It’s so worth your time and money–it just made me feel overall good. I could wear outfits I’d always wanted to wear before. You know how you hold onto a pair of jeans and think, should I keep these in case I fit into them again. And you never do fit into them again. And I actually did, which is insane.
Now that I’m done with the sessions, I’m like “okay, I really am happy with how I’m looking and how it made me feel to look like this again.” So, I’ve been a lot more consistent with the gym and my eating habits, to maintain what I got out of it. So it’s a nice little boost, like a positive feedback loop. I got my little boost that I needed, so now it’s time to just keep up with it. Everything in the gym requires consistency and a lot of time. Evolve gets you those results without you really doing anything, and then you can just keep it up more easily. I would love to see it in other areas like arms, because you can’t target fat loss!
What MedSpa did you get it done at?
Tessa: I went to Self Care LA in Santa Monica. They’re great, the team there was so nice. It was comfortable and easy. It’s nice that it’s near the beach and also close to a lot of good coffee shops and restaurants. It also has good parking, which is important in LA. I would go and get matcha and then get my treatment and sometimes get lunch too.
How was it using the Upkeep app?
Tessa: It was nice because using the app made it so that I could book out my appointments well in advance. I didn’t have to call them and have them go through their schedule. I could just go into the Upkeep app and make appointments for every Thursday. There were a lot of appointments available and it was so easy to work with my schedule. Once the Thursday appointments were all booked up, but it was easy to switch to Wednesday that week.
Would you recommend getting Evolve?
Tessa: Yes! I absolutely would.
