What is Sculptra Filler and What Can It Do For You?
November 4, 2022
We’ve all heard of dermal fillers—products like Juvederm and Restylane that offer instant plumping for lips and cheeks. These fillers can also be used for increased definition in the chin, jawline, and even reshaping the nose.
But what if you want a more subtle change? What if there were a type of filler that added volume gradually over time? What if you could get your own body to supercharge its own rejuvenating process for firmer, more lifted contours?
That’s where Sculptra comes in. It’s a different type of filler, and it works in a completely different way from the others. Here’s everything you need to know about this cutting edge MedSpa treatment.
What is Sculptra made out of?
Other fillers are made out of a synthetic version of hyaluronic acid, which is a substance your skin naturally produces. Sculptra is made out of a polymer called poly-L-lactic acid, similar to the substance used for dissolvable sutures. It works by triggering your body’s natural process of collagen production. Collagen helps our skin look firm and youthful. We start to lose collagen every day by age thirty, and Sculptra can help counteract this natural decline by triggering your body to make more collagen in the treatment area. Sculptra is classed as a biostimulatory filler, like Bellafill and Radiesse.
Where can you use Sculptra on the face?
You can use it in the nasolabial folds, that area around the mouth that tends to sag with age. And you can use it in the temples too for a natural-looking uplifted brow. It can also be used in the cheeks and jawline as well. One place you won’t see it used though is the lips. Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm or Restylane are the way to go for fuller lips.
How long does it take for results from Sculptra to show up?
It can take six weeks or so for results to be noticeable, with continued improvements for several months down the line. The downside? You have to wait, and you won’t get that instant rush when the doc hands you the mirror, like you get with lip fillers. The upside? The gradual improvements will be undetectable to everyone else, unless you tell them you’ve had it done. So if you’ve ever wanted to get a treatment on the more subtle side, this is the one for you. No one will be able to put their finger on why you look so refreshed. You can keep it a secret if you want, and just tell them you just drink a lot of cucumber water ;)
How long do Sculptra results last?
Results can last for up to two years, which is one of the big benefits of Sculptra. Results last longer than dermal fillers, which need topping up every six months to a year on average. In one study, patients still saw improvements 25 months post injection! Sculptra is really all about the long game.
Where can I get Sculptra?
You’ll need to visit a qualified, licensed provider for Sculptra. Just like every other type of injectable, side effects are super rare—but always more likely if not injected properly. So you should go to a professional you can trust. That’s one of the reasons why we made our MedSpa booking app, Upkeep—we wanted to take the guesswork and stress out of MedSpa treatments. So we carefully hand select each MedSpa that’s in the app. That way you can book Sculptra or other treatments with total peace of mind, knowing you’ll be in good hands.
