Upkeep’s Guide To A Perkier Peach
March 22, 2022
For a while, it seemed like breast augmentation was the ‘trendy’ body augmentation. But now it’s all about the peach. Some women are naturally blessed with shapely, round butts, but we aren’t all that lucky. It can be hard to add size to your butt because you can’t control where your body stores its fat (how rude). While some kinds of exercise will grow muscle size, that takes a long time--we’re talking years to grow your muscles. What if you don’t want to wait years to achieve your body goals?
Well, there are a lot of different ways to lift and sculpt your derriere in the medspa and plastic surgery space. Whether you’re looking for a quick lunchtime treatment or a full-on surgery, there’s a treatment that fits your needs. In this guide, we’re running down four common butt treatments: telling you how they work, the upsides and downsides, and where to get them.
Emsculpt Neo
How it works: Emsculpt Neo burns fat AND builds muscle at the same time. It does this by delivering radio frequency heat and electromagnetic energy to the treatment area. The radio frequency burns fat, and the electromagnetic energy triggers powerful muscle contractions. This treatment can increase muscle size by up to 25% and decrease fat by 30%. And if you want to keep the fat in the area, you can just do the muscle contraction part and opt out of the radio frequency. Best of all, it’s non-invasive. Your treatment provider simply applies the device and increases the strength of the contractions over the course of half an hour. You’ll feel a little sore afterwards, but there's basically no downtime or side effects. If you want natural-looking, perky results, look into Emsculpt Neo.
Where to get it:
Available at medspas, including medspas in the Upkeep app. For more info, check out our full Emsculpt treatment guide here.
Brazilian Butt Lift
This procedure takes fat from one area of the body via liposuction and injects it into the butt. Often the fat comes from an area you’d like to make smaller anyway such as the hips, thighs or lower abdomen. The BBL can sculpt your problem area and grow your butt in the same procedure. But it is an outpatient surgery, done under general anesthesia, and there are several weeks of downtime. As with all surgeries, there’s always the risk of complications, so you should also consider your decision super carefully. But if you’re looking for a dramatic change, the BBL may be right for you.
Where to get it:
Go to a board-certified plastic surgeon. Listen, we’ve all seen the ads for cheap BBLs, but do not try to cut corners and go to a clinic whose prices are suspiciously low. The Brazilian butt lift is a complex procedure that requires rigorous, specialized training. If you want to avoid botched results or serious complications, look for a cosmetic surgeon who specializes in fat transfer. Don’t hesitate to verify their credentials--for starters, look them up on the American Board of Plastic Surgery website. Remember that a good surgeon will ask you a lot of questions to determine that you’re a good candidate for this surgery. It isn’t right for everyone. If a doctor schedules you for the procedure without a thorough assessment of your health and expectations–that’s a red flag.
Silicone implants
Butt augmentation, also known as gluteoplasty, is a more traditional option. It creates a round, perky shape. You might be thinking that butt implants are the same as silicone breast implants, but they’re not. Breast implants are filled with fluid. Butt implants are harder in texture. This is because they have to withstand daily activities like sitting, standing, and exercise. This is an invasive surgery, and requires extensive downtime. But the upside is that results last for up to ten years. Implants may be right for you if you don’t have enough body fat to do a Brazilian butt lift.
Where to get it:
Go to a board-certified plastic surgeon.
Sculptra
Sculptra is a kind of filler that works with your body to create more collagen. It’s used in the face, and some practitioners also use it on the butt. The downside with Sculptra is that results aren’t immediate. It takes time for your body to build that collagen, and it may take many treatment sessions and a pretty large volume of product. You’ll see results around 3-4 months post-treatment. It’s not permanent, but lasts for 2-5 years on average. If you want a less invasive option, Sculptra may be right for you.
Where to get it:
Some medspas may offer it, or plastic surgeons.
