How To Change Your Skincare For Winter
December 22, 2022
Winter can be a tricky time for your skin. The cold temperatures, strong winds, and low humidity of outdoor air coincides with the desert-dry air of central heating. If your skin looks dry or dull, or feels irritated, it can really put a damper on your self-confidence--not to mention, it's just uncomfortable. That’s why we’re here with skincare recommendations specifically for the cold winter season. And if you’re somewhere warm? Lucky you, please don’t rub it in!
Ceramides
Ceramides support and repair your skin’s moisture barrier. Think of them like a cocoon of soft comfort for your face. If you live in an area with high winds or extreme cold–or if your face just feels irritated and constantly dry–ceramides could be just what you need.
AHAs
If your skin is dull and flaky, then you need alpha hydroxy acids ASAP. These acids, derived from fruit and/or milk, dissolve dead skin cells to reveal smoother, brighter skin. Plus, they also help your other skincare absorb better. But if your skin is extra sensitive, don’t go overboard with chemical exfoliants like AHAs. Overusing them can create irritation, which we don’t want. You need a gentle formula, and apply it only 2-3 a week.
Squalane
Even if your skin is relatively oily, you can expect it to feel dry and tight in the winter months. That’s why we recommend everyone in cooler climates incorporate face oil during the wintertime. Squalane is a lightweight oil derived from sugar cane that is chemically really similar to squalene, an oil your skin naturally produces. It provides instant glow and nourishes dry skin. But, it’s not too heavy, making it suitable for most skin types.
Hyaluronic acid
Your skin gets really dehydrated in the winter because typically humidity both indoors and outdoors declines. Enter the hydration hero, hyaluronic acid to the rescue! This skincare ingredient acts as a humectant, drawing water into your skin for a plump, bouncy appearance. It also helps your skin absorb any moisturizing products you put on top of it.
But what if you don’t have time to wait for skincare to work its magic? What if you need to look good fast?
Sometimes skincare takes weeks of consistent use to see a difference. And we don’t always have that kind of time! There are times when you just need a beauty SOS. Maybe it’s a holiday party, maybe you’re meeting the boyfriend’s family for the first time, but whatever the beauty emergency is–it’s not too late to rapidly improve how your skin looks before a big event! We made an app that makes it easy for you to book facials on demand, called Upkeep. We have two options if you need to look good quickly, the Hydrafacial or Forma. Both treatments will give you an instant lift, and you can book both on Upkeep!
How does it work? Once you’ve downloaded the app, all you need to do is tap the Hydrafacial or Red Carpet Energy C buttons in the treatment menu. Then, choose a day that works for you–we have next-day or even same-day appointments. You can select a time that is convenient for your schedule, not the other way around, because we allow you to see openings at multiple MedSpas in your area. And all our MedSpa partners go through a rigorous vetting process (we literally have a 70-point checklist!) so you can rest assured you’ll be in good hands. You pay in the app so there are no surprises–it’s a seamless experience from start to finish. So if you need to look glowing and party-ready, like, right now–we’ve got you. Download the app and book your facial appointment today!
