Find The Right Body Sculpting Treatment For You
July 20, 2022
If you had the power to change your body, what would you do?
Would you give yourself a toned, smooth tummy? Or a round, perky derriere? Or would you give yourself toned, strong arms?
You’re already imagining it now, right? The same you, but a little smoother, toned, or more evenly proportioned. Able to fill out that dress–the one you’ve always wanted to wear–in all the right places. You, but more confident and carefree.
Your body goals can become a reality with body sculpting treatments. Oh, sure, you could try to diet and exercise your way there. But sometimes even the most diligent workout plans and diets aren’t enough to create the bodies we dream of, and we can hit biological roadblocks that have nothing to do with our behaviors. Body sculpting treatments are the faster and easier way.
And while other MedSpa treatments like Botox and filler have recently exploded in popularity, less is known about non-invasive treatments that sculpt your body. So in this blog, we’re here to answer your body sculpting questions.
What is body sculpting?
Body sculpting refers to treatments that sculpt your body by either reducing fat or increasing muscle mass (and in some cases both, but we’ll get to that later). They can target stubborn areas of fat that diet and exercise can’t budge, and they can improve the contours of your body by increasing muscle mass, which gives you a toned, evenly-proportioned look. In this blog we’re focusing on body sculpting treatments that are non-invasive, meaning no incisions are required and minimal (if any) downtime post treatment.
How does body sculpting work?
It depends on the treatment itself. Almost all of them rely on radiofrequency heat or extreme cold to deliver their results, with some using electromagnetic pulses as well. Each of these technologies requires a body sculpting machine of some kind. They are complicated pieces of equipment, which is why your treatment provider is trained in safely using the machine. (Think about it: if it’s powerful enough to literally eliminate fat cells or build muscle tissue, you want a professional on the job, right?) These body sculpting treatments rely on either hand-held applicators that your treatment provider will use on the treatment area, or applicators that are strapped securely around your body. Depending on the treatment you get, you might feel heat or cold from the applicator, or involuntary muscle contractions, and these sensations can be a little uncomfortable. But non-surgical body sculpting treatments are not painful and typically require very little downtime after a treatment session.
What are the different types of body sculpting treatments?
CryoSlim uses very cold temperatures to eliminate fat cells. Emsculpt Neo uses a combination of radiofrequency to melt fat cells and electromagnetic pulses to build muscle simultaneously. And Evolve’s suite of treatments uses radiofrequency applied at different strengths for skin tightening, cellulite reduction, or muscle building. We have in depth guides for Emsculpt Neo, CryoSlim, and Evolve. But here’s a quick cheat sheet if you’re wondering which one is best for which goal.
- CryoSlim: fat reduction in a targeted area (arms, belly, bra fat, etc)
- Evolve Tite: tightens skin that has become lax as the result of weight loss, childbirth, or aging.
- Evolve Trim: fat reduction in a targeted area (like CryoSlim) and/or cellulite reduction
- Evolve Tone: adds muscle volume and definition to the treatment area
- Emsculpt Neo: reduces fat and builds muscle at the same time. The fat-reduction setting can also be turned off for just muscle building. Best for abs, butt, and thighs.
Is body sculpting safe?
If you’re a good candidate for these treatments (and it’s likely you are), body sculpting is really safe. Side effects are minimal with these treatments, which is why we recommend them. Temporary swelling, bruising, tingling, or tenderness may occur, but many people have no side effects at all. With body sculpting treatments that use extreme cold to kill fat cells, there is an extremely rare chance of the fat cells in the treatment area hardening up. But even that rare side effect is not harmful, just annoying, and it can be fixed. Compare the minimal downtime and low-risk nature of body sculpting treatments to the risk of complications from body-altering surgeries like liposuction or a Brazilian butt lift. Major surgeries like that have multiple risk factors: going under general anesthesia, infections, contour irregularities, and accumulation of fluids (ew). Evolve, Emsculpt Neo, and CryoSlim are much lower-risk and still deliver noticeable results.
