All Your Questions About Emsculpt Neo, Answered

Discover why we’re so obsessed with this next-gen bodysculpting treatment.

July 10, 2023

Emsculpt Neo combines radiofrequency with electromagnetic technology to build muscle and burn fat at the same time. It’s completely non-invasive and has no known side effects. So we can’t blame people for wondering: is it too good to be true? Is there something about this treatment I don’t know about? That’s why we’re answering all the frequently asked questions we get about this cutting edge, life changing body sculpting treatment.

Does Emsculpt Neo really work?

Yes! On average, Emsculpt Neo reduces subcutaneous fat by 30 percent, and increases muscle mass by 25 percent. It triggers muscle contractions at an intensity that even the toughest workout can’t replicate–one session is the same as doing 20,000 bodyweight squats. But it also has technology to reduce lactic acid buildup in your muscles, so you won’t feel heinously sore the next day..

Is Emsculpt Neo permanent?

Yes and no. The fat cell reduction is permanent–once those fat cells are gone, they can’t come back. But if you don’t maintain your new muscle tone with exercise, those gains are temporary. It’s much easier to maintain your results than it is to build them up from scratch, though.

Is Emsculpt Neo FDA approved?

Yes, Emsculpt was first FDA approved in 2018, and its higher powered variant Emsculpt Neo was approved in 2020. Additional approval for the treatment of those with darker skin tones was granted in 2021.

Is Emsculpt Neo better than CoolSculpting?

Emsculpt has a couple of advantages over CoolSculpting. First, CoolSculpting is known to have a rare side effect called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia. That’s science speak for “fat cells growing bigger and harder instead of going away”. This side effect still isn’t well understood, and supposedly happens less with newer versions of the CoolSculpting machines. But this same side effect can’t happen with Emsculpt NEO because the two treatments use totally different technologies. With Emsculpt NEO, you don’t have to worry about your fat cells hardening. The second reason why we think it’s better than CoolSculpting is that it can reduce fat cells and increase lean muscle mass at the same time. CoolSculpting just reduces fat cells.

Does Emsculpt Neo tighten skin/ help with cellulite?

Emsculpt Neo can help reduce the appearance of cellulite on the thighs in an indirect way. Because it’s reducing how many fat cells are in an area, and cellulite is caused in part by fat cells, it can help with cellulite. It certainly won’t make your cellulite worse! But it wasn’t designed for that specifically. If cellulite or loose skin is your main concern, other minimally invasive treatments like Emtone, Morpheus8, or Evolve are better for.

Does Emsculpt Neo work on arms?

Yes! Emsculpt Neo is FDA approved for the following treatment areas: arms, abdomen, glutes, thighs, and calves. If you’re looking to tone your arms and reduce fat at the same time, you can with Emsculpt Neo.

Emsculpt Neo vs Evolve: which is right for me?

Evolve is another non-invasive bodysculpting treatment we love. It’s similar to Emsculpt Neo in that they both use RF heat and electromagnetic pulses to reduce fat and build muscle. But the primary difference between them is that Evolve is also designed to treat skin laxity and/or cellulite. Evolve offers more customization because the machine has three different attachments–one for skin tightening, one for muscle building, and one for fat reduction.

Does Emsculpt Neo help with diastasis recti?

It can help! Diastasis recti is the separation of your abdominal muscles that happens as the result of pregnancy. It used to be that surgery was the only way to fix this issue, but now Emsculpt Neo is a less invasive treatment option. How does it help with diastasis recti? Emerging research shows that the tightening and strengthening of the muscles can help mild to moderate cases. A study published in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, found “a statistically significant average 18.6% reduction of adipose tissue thickness, 15.4% increase in rectus abdominis muscle thickness, and 10.4% reduction in rectus abdominus separation (diastasis recti).” Let’s be honest, if you have a new baby in the house, you don’t have time for an intensive exercise regime. A treatment course of Emsculpt Neo takes about four hours total and yields similar results to that 12 week ab program you’ve been thinking about. It’s much easier to work into your busy schedule. So if you've tried to get better with physical therapy/exercise alone and it's not working, an assist from Emsculpt Neo can be helpful.
