Yes, Emsculpt was first FDA approved in 2018, and its higher powered variant Emsculpt Neo was approved in 2020. Additional approval for the treatment of those with darker skin tones was granted in 2021. 

Is Emsculpt Neo better than CoolSculpting?

Emsculpt has a couple of advantages over CoolSculpting. First, CoolSculpting is known to have a rare side effect called paradoxical adipose hyperplasia. That’s science speak for “fat cells growing bigger and harder instead of going away”. This side effect still isn’t well understood, and supposedly happens less with newer versions of the CoolSculpting machines. But this same side effect can’t happen with Emsculpt NEO because the two treatments use totally different technologies. With Emsculpt NEO, you don’t have to worry about your fat cells hardening. The second reason why we think it’s better than CoolSculpting is that it can reduce fat cells and increase lean muscle mass at the same time. CoolSculpting just reduces fat cells. 

Does Emsculpt Neo tighten skin/ help with cellulite?

Emsculpt Neo can help reduce the appearance of cellulite on the thighs in an indirect way. Because it’s reducing how many fat cells are in an area, and cellulite is caused in part by fat cells, it can help with cellulite. It certainly won’t make your cellulite worse!
