5 Beauty Trends to Try This Fall
October 20, 2023
Lately, it seems like food-related TikTok trends have taken over beauty. (Tomato girl makeup, anyone?) But these TikTok aesthetics are here to stay, kooky food names and all. As the weather cools, we’re excited to try the newest beauty trends–and add a new product (or twelve) to our Sephora carts. Here are the trends from both TikTok and the runway that are going to be big this fall, that you’ll actually want to wear. (We're leaving off bleached eyebrows).
Latte Makeup
This trend is everywhere right now, just in time for pumpkin spice latte season. We’ve seen on It Girl of the moment, Hailey Bieber, as well as Jennifer Lopez. This tonal makeup look is all about neutral brown tones with a hint of warmth to them. To pull off this look, keep all the products you use close in shade and undertone–don’t try to break it up with a pop of bright pink blush. This trend is all about keeping things monochrome. Combine soft brown eyeshadow with bronzed cheeks and a caramel-colored lip gloss.
Cherry Cola lips
The 90s never really went away, so we can’t say they’re “back.” But there’s no denying that this trend is straight out of 1994--tweaked for TikTok of course. Getting this look, as seen on stars like Kylie Jenner, is easy. Pair a lip liner several shades darker than your skin tone with a red gloss and blend together for a soft gradient look. Add a red lip stain underneath the gloss for more longevity and amped up color.
Matte dark lips
A dark lip is a classic trend that comes around every time the leaves change color. But keeping it matte is what makes it modern and fresh. The key to this trend is to make sure your foundation and concealer are flawless. Darker lip colors can emphasize darkness under your eyes or uneven skin tone, so make sure to cover any uneven areas so you don’t look drained. A cranberry red or sophisticated deep plum are our picks for matte dark lipstick.
Soft Grunge
This year’s version of goth is soft and subtle–perfect if you want to add some edge to your look, without going overboard. Think gray smokey eyes with a sheer brown lip gloss, or smokey liner with tons of (slightly clumpy) black mascara. If you're adding touches of darkness or messiness to your lips or eyes? Make sure your skin looks glowy and fresh to keep everything in balance.
Strawberry Girl makeup
This look is a late summer crossover into fall. Defined by bright red blush applied high on the cheekbones, some painted on freckles, and matching red lips, this look is bold and approachable at the same time. To make it more autumnal, try a slightly darker red lip color, applied with a finger for a blurred, stained look.
